I only wanted the MKV Codec .......... but which, if any, is it?

During install, you can choose which components you want to install, however, there is no obvious codec for MKV! So it seems your choice is a) to install everything, and hope one of them fixes the problem for MKV or b) delete the contents, and hope you did not download a virus!

it appears to contain MKV codec in the description, however ......

Worst:

If it does contain what you want, why make it impossible to find?
